PLANHEALTH - Consortium (2021 - 2024)

PLANHEALTH - Combining levers for the integrated management of organic plant, animal and soil health

Managing the health of animals, crops and soils is a key issue for the scaling-up of organic farming. The originality of the consortium lies in the unprecedented collaboration of disciplinary communities working on the integrated management of plant and animal health to explore the interfaces between these two kingdoms, as well as the link to soil health, and to catalyse the emergence of new scientific fronts.

AIM

Within the PlAnHealth consortium, organic production systems, which involve limited or no use of synthetic molecules, are seen as operational prototypes for systemic health management at the farm or even the regional scale. They also act as catalysts for new scientific and technical issues and, therefore, potentially for innovations in integrated health management at all scales. The aim is to mobilize efficiently all available management levers by simultaneously considering the soil, the plant and the animal, in line with the "One Health" concept.

The 1st phase of the PlAnHealth consortium (funded by METABIO in 2021-2022), led to the creation of an interdisciplinary community that shares a common vocabulary as well as common objectives and priority themes. The objectives of this second phase are to:

  • strengthen network coordination;
  • pursue scientific reflection and finalize review articles;
  • develop collaborative projects at the national and international levels on priority themes.

MEANS

DaFor this purpose, the consortium brings together scientists from a wide range of disciplines: agronomy, genetics, epidemiology, ecology, modeling, animal production; plant and animal health; field crop and livestock systems; soil ecology, biogeochemistry and microbiology.
